As a Marine I have had that stare.

 

The 1000 yard stare has many forms: 

the ‘we are so screwed’ stare,

the ‘to hell in a handbasket’ stare,

the ‘who the hell is he’ stare,

the ‘let’s get this over with stare’.

You don’t usually see these stares because they are generally reserved for the commanders, CO’s.  Yes, he is their Commander-in-Chief but it’s usually Pomp and Circumstance at these events, everyone holds there baring.  Not in this case, I see disdain.

He promised transparency…and that’s just what they see, a transparent leader.  They see right through him.

You can’t have a 1000 yard stare if you can’t see right through him.
