Well…the name is?

Posted in Blessings, Child, God our Father, Names, Warrior heart by Andy on November 18, 2009

Walker…Walker Andrew to be exact. That’s his name. We finally decided on a name for our son. The kids like it…mostly, they related it to Luke Skywalker which is funny since that movie has transended generations now.

But Walker, to us, is a unique name that you don’t really hear for a first name so he will be an individual in that sense. Also, its kind of rustic, cowboyish and it will go with him if he is born with red hair, yet it is still a strong manly name. She would really like a redheaded child. Now that we have a name we can start to bond with him.

I pray that daily that he is healthy and that he will live beyond my expectations and His expectations. I pray that I can raise him to be a man and that both of us can raise him to be a strong in faith, a child of God.

Names part2

So two post ago I discussed the name that our Father has given us and what it means to know what He thinks of us by the name He has given us.

But if you read the last post you will see that wifey and I are expecting…a BOY! We’ve been discussing names, it has not been easy. We both agree to give our child a strong male name but thats where the agreement ends. I tend to like unique names, Biblical names, names with meaning not some of the stranger yet original names that you here nowadays. She likes some traditional names that are less heard of today and original variations of some common names.

Well through all of this we have narrowed them down to just four name, two from each of us.
Hers: Walker and Jaxson (or Jackson).
Mine: Gunnar and Elias.

Four of the best we like, we both have leanings for our names but I think we will be happy with any of these four.  Hopefully over the next few days we will come to a final decision on what this blessing will be named by his parents.  We are praying for His guidence.  And of course I will let y’all know.

God’s Little Detours

Posted in Blessings, Child by Andy on March 31, 2009

Wow…has our world been turned upside down since last weekend.

We could see it, the road, the path we were taking. Or so we thought. We don’t know why or what or exactly how things happened but they did. I tried to rationalize; I tried to come up with some reason He did this.

‘Did what’ you ask…we had a miscarriage. It sucks! Mentally drained and physically frustrated but emotionally, we are left hanging. Cut off from a love that had just started.

I spoke with a friend early on Friday evening, the advise and prayer he gave me rang true.  He told me not to try to rationalize any of this, throw out all the books, sermons, podcast; just be with your wife.  From there that is what I did.  We cried, we talked, we sat quietly with each other.  The question kept looming, why did this happen.  Our only answer was that something was wrong with the baby and it just wasn’t our time.  We went through some of the low points in our lives thinking that they were the reasons God was punishing us.  He is not like that…He is not punishing us. He is growing us.  But…

As the weekend went on we were swarmed, her especially, by so much love.  So many people were calling and expressing empathy…not sympathy; Empathy. It gave us some peace, something to relate to others with.

And there it was…it hit me.  With tears on my face, glass of wine in hand, sitting on the couch having a heart-to-heart with my wife about this whole situation, it hit me.  Relationships…

Now it’s taken a few days to unpack it all but this is what I got.

There is no one to blame, it’s no ones fault.  Not ours’ and definitely NOT God’s. Its not about the reason that it happened, it happened anyway.  It’s about Him.  As I said before He has surrounded us by some many.  It’s about His love.

The relationships…with Him, with my wife and I, us as a couple and Him and all the people that He has put in our lives to show His love, to show He is there.  We cannot think about this bad thing that has happened, no need to manifest on the negative and allow Satan to separate us from Him.  He put people around us to ensure that that did not happen.  These relationships are about Him and His love for us.  We feel so loved by Him.  This goes beyond  the faith that we have in Him, the loving relationship is stronger than just faith.  The doubt that crept into us initially became an exercise to strengthen our love in Him.

This was not something we wanted to go through but it was our choice to follow Him.  If we could do this all over again, we would do it if it meant being surrounded by His love and sharing this love with other people.

When He riegns, it pours.

Blessings

Posted in Blessings, Child, Names by Andy on March 25, 2009

So, I haven’t posted on it yet but I guess it would be good to now since I’m sure I will write on it later…

We are pregnant. She will be 9 weeks on Friday and it looks like the end of October for a birth date. Which is close to my own birthday, awesome. We are thanking God for the blessing but I am still praying for a boy. I hope God can increase this blessing.

Names…too early or not, we have been discussing them since before the pregnancy. My wife and little girl have already decided on the girls name, Sophia Grace, I can’t argue with it.

We have been bouncing around some boy names of course. My first attempt was shot down. I thought ‘Shooter’ would be an outstanding name for a boy but the wife is not in agreement. (Shooter will likely be his nickname.) Wifey thinks that it sounds like a dog’s name; what’s wrong with dogs. So on to the next name, 2 actually. Gunnar or Elijah; strong manly names. I lean more towards Gunnar. The middle name will be my middle name. Gunnar Andrew would be a great name to pass down to my son.

We are still praying for the baby, giving thanks for the blessing and a healthy child. Please pray for us. Let me know what you think of the names…Shooter is a good name!
